What: Fashion Forward
When: September 29 @ 7pm for VIPs, 8pm General admission
Where: The Florida Theater
Jacksonville is hungry for fashion, but knowing where to find that fashion is a bit of a puzzle. Enter last year’s Fashion Forward event, put on by the Up & Cummers, a social group associated with the Cummer Gallery made up of twenty five to forty five year-olds. Last year’s show sold out, and in year two the event has been moved to a larger location: The Florida Theatre. Ostensibly the reason for the move is because of the construction that that Gallery is experiencing, but the Florida Theatre has the added benefit of having more room for patrons. This year they hope to double the audience for the show. The show is also underwritten in part by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Florida.
The fashion show will be broken up into two runs, with a break in the middle. The show will feature the hottest fashions for fall in casual, relaxed, professional and formal attire from Jacksonvilles own Armor, Hayden’s Haberdashery, House of Kilroy, Jaffis, jAshley, JT Vinson Clothiers, Luna, modelcitizen, Reve, and Rosie True. The featured designer is LulaKate from Charleston, South Carolina. You can find her clothes in Jacksonville’s Reve. Dessert will be provided for attendees following the second run in the Promenade Lobby. The decadent desserts will be by Edible Creations, Kilwins, Nonies, One Hot Cookie and Sweet & Savory. There are at least two items will be up for a chance drawing: a gift basket from Chanel at Belk, worth $300, and a $100 gift certificate from Ten, a Sheila Powers Salon. Since the Up & Cummer events are always tied back to their current exhibition, it’s no surprise that an Oriental theme will be key to the evening—a tie in with the Cummer’s Japanese wood block prints on display. Greeters at the event will be dressed and made up as Geishas. The Geisha’s makeup will be done by Beauty Bar, something makeup artist Jennifer Walsh says she’s “excited about.” Four hair salons, four shoe stores and three makeup artists will be at the event. Each clothing designer will be paired with a hair salon, shoe store and makeup artist. Makeup and hair styling provided by Avante, The Beauty Bar, Belk, Casablanca, Cecil Vignutti, Sephora, and Ten. Accessories will be provided by Carla Shoes, Emly Benham, Heather Peck, Shirk Thompson, and Tiara. Members of the Up & Cummers get a discounted rate on their tickets, as well as access to the VIP areas in the show. VIP ticket holders get the benefit of gaining entry an hour earlier than general admission ticket holders. The VIP room will have delicious cuisine from Aurathai, Casbah, and Genghis Khan. The room will also have hookahs and belly dancing, compliments of Casbah. Luxe Lounge and Sephora have graciously donated gift bags for the VIP’s. The VIP area will be prepared with arrangements from Glen Certain in a Japanese décor. DJ Catharsis will be spinning Japanese music in the VIP room.
Tickets are limited, so advance tickets are recommended. Advance general admission is $25 and advance VIP admission is $50. On the day of the show, general admission is $30 and VIP admission is $60. Doors at 7 p.m. open for VIPs and regular admission ticket holders get in at 8 p.m.
