Some things are better in pairs: peanut butter and jelly, yin and yang, Sonny and Cher. Nomad and Notsucal are no exception. Fully recorded and produced with no outside guidance and released in early June, this self-titled debut album for both The N Word and Hip Hop Hell Records is a true fusion of old school blues, soul and even disco, translated with witty lyricism that takes you inside the minds of two truly talented and promising individuals.

There’s the upbeat ‘My People’ chanting, “This is for my people, holding it down, keep the party jumping ‘cause I’m feeling alright.” I personally love the lyrics in the cleverly-titled track, ‘Gimmicks,’ where Nomad rants about the commercially-driven hip-hop that infects our airwaves with,”Every time I tune into the radio and videos, same commercial product, but they’re switching up scenarios.”

Every song is packed with something special that really sets this group apart from the others. I love the backing tracks. You can tell Notsucal does some serious crate digging. Another favorite has to be ‘D.A.R.Y.L.,’ which is also Nomad’s alter-robot-ego “Data Analyzing Rockin’ Youth Lifeform.” The driving beat and bass line in ‘Breakfast Club’ gives your ass a little something to do, too. Check out their snazzy video, a couple of live clips, and some tracks from their CD on myspace.com/thenwordmusic. c
