It has finally arrived! The 8th annual Jacksonville Film Festival has been programmed and is speeding toward us quickly. The second-ever TALKIES program brings legendary filmmaker John Waters to town to present and discuss his film Polyester in its original format and even complete with the Odorama cards, which were part of its original presentation, so you can smell along with the film. There’s also a slough of great documentaries, shorts, experimental films, and other special showings.
Don’t write documentaries off as boring, these aren’t History Channel shows, they include a hilarious documentary about emotionally stunted role playing game fanatics that take their gaming a step too far (Monster Camp) and a documentary about a documentarian that shows the real Michael Moore (Manufacturing Dissent). Every film is worth seeing, and you won’t get another chance to see many of them ever again.
