This musical is about men and women, love and marriage and those have been popular themes since the days of Shakespeare. Robert, a desirable 35-year old bachelor, is put off by the prospect of marriage because of the flaws in the relationships of his five friends. The setting of this Paul Zindel play is the lavish reception room of the new multi-million-dollar Alamo Theatre, a regional theatre complex that has grown from a small operation in a converted church to one of the glories of Texas culture. A lady of great wealth and lust for power is scheming to replace Dede, the theatre’s director, with a fading Hollywood star. In the end, no one is left unscathed and while the insurrection is put down, it becomes clear that the scars of battle will be long in healing.
