on the rocks
an art showcase at the ocean club

WHAT: Vestal’s On the Rocks Art Showcase

WHEN: March 10, 2007 from 2pm – 2am.

WHERE: the Ocean Club, 401 North First Street and The Atlantic, 333 North First Street in Jax Beach.

This Saturday the Ocean Club and The Atlantic, neighbors on the Boardwalk at Third Avenue North in Jacksonville Beach, will be hosting local promoter Joe VanDyke’s art and music fusion event, the Vestal’s On the Rocks Art Showcase.

In July of 2006 Joe VanDyke held his first art show at the Seawalk Hotel in Jacksonville Beach. With 15 celebrated exhibitors, it drew a crowd of about 450 patrons. With such a great response to begin with, a second art show was staged at the same venue over Halloween weekend, garnering more than twice as many visitors for a crowd of about 1,000 with 55 exhibitors. Each show has gotten larger and drawn a bigger crowd. The On the Rocks Showcase will feature more than 70 artists from the area and live music throughout the day.

VanDyke and co-promoter Patrick Carter, who has done all the flyer art for the three shows, are pumped for the March event. “When attending one of these shows, it becomes obvious that the beaches area of Jacksonville needs more events like this, to show more appreciation for the arts in our community.” VanDyke divulges, “…music and art are my life… and with the help of Vestal (a cutting-edge watch/clothing company out of L.A.), I plan on doing these events in some other cities soon.”

Among the numerous exhibitors and performers, headlining the March event will be Jacksonville-based artists Zac Freeman and Shaun Thurston plus live music from Shadow Agency, Christina Wagner and Kings of Hell, among others.

But not all of the artists at the show will be known in the Jacksonville community. For Kyle Cannon, a local artist inspired by artists such as Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, and Blaine Fontana, it will be his first show. On the Rocks gives locals the opportunity to discover new area artists while grooving to dance music and drinking tequila shooters (depending on their age, of course).

All ages welcome from 2pm – 10pm, ages 21 and up after 10pm. $5 cover for 21 and up, $8 under 21. For more information on Vestal go to www.vestalwatch.com
