Random thoughts from a cluttered mind.
When the Gators lost to Vanderbilt last week, I thought it was no big deal. When they lost to LSU, I thought it was something they could deal with as well. But their loss this week to Tennessee should be a wake-up call. Billy Donovan should turn up the heat and let the boys know it’s time to start getting serious about things, as they get closer to the SEC and NCAA tournaments. Their talent is certainly there, with Brewer, Horford, Noah, and Green, to run the table again. But they need to start playing better and realize every team wants a piece of their ass.
Conference Tournaments have begun, as we have seen mainly the ‘minor leagues’ playing to determine which team will represent their Conference in the NCAA Tournament. Next week we shall see the larger, major conferences do the same.
Meanwhile, we still have a lot of teams that are ‘on the bubble’, as we see every season, and that’s what makes college basketball so intriguing at this time of the year. So there will be quite a few teams sweating it out as they know they need a win or two to be seriously considered for an at-large bud to get into the ‘Field of 65’.
So, there will be a lot of teams whose situations we do no know. However, one thing we do know is that the UNF Ospreys had a team that absolutely sucked. I truly believe I could’ve coached the team to a better record, even if it was just ONE more win! That was pathetic, awful, and flat out BAD! Thankfully, their season is over. They should consider going back to Division II.
THIS, my friends, is quite interesting…
The NBA is starting a channel on YouTube, which will show authorized footage of games, while also allowing uploads from fans of their own ‘best moves’. This was done on the heels of the NHL having their site on YouTube as well.
Both the NBA and NHL did this because the internet is becoming THE media outlet to reach people. Over one hundred million videos are viewed each day on YouTube, according to the site. Each League cut a deal with the site, as there will be revenue-sharing arrangements for sponsorships and advertising.
So, if you want to go out there and have your buddy shoot some video of you making a dunk or shooting a three-pointer in your driveway, and you make it entertaining, the NAB might just let you on their site, right next to the footage of LeBron James winning a game with his own dunking!
The boys now have a week off to figure out what the deal is with this crazy unleaded gas! It seems some car engines aren’t running too well on the stuff, namely Martin Truex, Jr. and teammate Dale Earnhardt, Jr., who now of course is in the depths of the points race after only two weeks.
My only thought is that blaming gas on your car not performing is quite interesting, when there are so many other possibilities, especially in NASCAR!
Meanwhile, the BUSCH Series is in Mexico City! It should be quite interesting to see what kind of response the Hispanics give to the drivers and their teams for this weekend.
This past week, Wake Forest decided they liked their football coach, Jim Grobe, so much, they wanted to extend his contract for AN ENTIRE DECADE! This was done on the heels of Rutgers University doing the same with their football coach Greg Schiano, who now has a contract that runs through 2016.
This, my friends, is a complete, ridiculous joke.
I know both of these guys did a great job with their teams, putting together great teams and winning programs at school that have almost never even SNIFFED decent football programs. The school AD’s and administrators must’ve been so giddy, and then fearful of losing their coaches, that they felt they had to put a lock-down on these guys.
As we have seen in various situations, ANY coach who is desired by a team, especially an NFL team or a major college (Alabama, etc) will lay down serious ‘bank’ and make an offer to entice him to leave his current program. Signing long-term deals means absolutely nothing. The whole scene is almost laughable.
