A Florida appeals court issued a stay in the dispute over remains of Anna Nicole Smith, ruling that the body can not be moved to the Bahamas until the judges hear a challenge from Smith’s mother, Virgie Arthur, who has battled for the right to bury her daughter in her home state of Texas. Richard Milstein, the guardian ad litem to Smith’s daughter, Dannielynn, was awarded custody of the remains last week and decided the former Playmate should be buried in the Bahamas. Get that girl in the ground, jeez!
A judge made no ruling in the custody dispute over Dannielynn Monday, leaving the infant in the care of Howard K. Stern for the time being. An attorney for Virgie Arthur stated that Stern has not permitted her to visit the child, while TMZ reporting that Larry Birkhead was finally able to meet the baby he believes is his daughter over the weekend.
Meanwhile, Circuit Judge Larry Seidlin, who has been mocked for his tearful ruling in the Anna Nicole case, got an offer to host a new segment called “Morning Justice” on CBS’ Saturday Early Show, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
Eddie Murphy’s rep denied reports speculating that the actor was a sore loser because he left the Academy Awards after Little Miss Sunshine star Alan Arkin’s upset victory in the Best Supporting Actor category. “Eddie had always planned on leaving after his category was announced to spend the rest of the evening with his family,” Murphy’s rep, Arnold Robinson said in a statement, pointing out that the Dreamgirls star did the same thing at the Golden Globes, where he won the category.
The Police sold out 16 of 16 tour dates that have gone on sale to date, it was announced Monday, making an estimated 415,000 tickets sold so far. Tickets for additional dates in Cleveland, Detroit, Philadelphia, Hershey, Edmonton, Dallas, Miami, Hartford and St. Paul go on sale soon. Hey, I predicted they’d sell out instantly.
Bobby Brown was ordered Monday to remain in jail in Massachusetts until he pays $19,000 in late child support payments and court fees. The R&B singer was arrested Sunday while watching his daughter’s cheerleading competition at an area high school.
Another Brown–Foxy Brown surfaced in a Brooklyn church Monday to tell her side of the story in her recent arrest at a Florida beauty supply shop, claiming she was dragged half-naked out of a restroom, then picked on by police because she was a “young, black woman.” Store owner Hayssam Ghoneim claimed the rapper spat on him when he asked her to leave because he was closing. Brown faces charges of resisting a police officer and battery.
Hynie Still in Mix: James Brown’s companion, Tomi Rae Hynie, reached an agreement with the trustees of the late singer’s estate over obtaining DNA samples from Brown’s body to help sort out several paternity claims made since his death on Christmas Day, leading to the cancellation of a Tuesday hearing on the matter, Hynie’s lawyer said. Meanwhile, Brown is still decomposing in his home.
Fresh off their Oscar victories, Martin Scorsese and Departed scribe William Monacan are teaming up again on Paramount Pictures’ rock ‘n’ roll epic The Long Play, Variety reports. In keeping with their formula, Scorsese will direct the film, while Monahan will write the script. Mick Jagger is producing the film, along with his Jagged Films partner Victoria Pearman.
American Idol semifinalist Antonella Barba’s best friend, Amanda Coluccio, with whom she tried out for the talent competition, told the Newark Star-Ledger that Barba is not the subject of racy photos making the rounds on the Internet that purportedly show her in some comprising positions. “She’s the least slutty person I know,” Coluccio said.
