Artist: Escape the Fate

Title: Dying is Your Latest Fashion

Release Date: 09.2006

Label: Epitaph
Escape the Fate played in Jacksonville this month at Jackrabbits, as part of the 2007 Epitaph Tour. The band is only a few years old, the product of a MySpace search by vocalist Ronnie Radke and bass player Max Green. Since their inception, they’ve released two albums to the public: the five song There’s No Sympathy for the Dead and their 2006 Dying is Your Latest Fashion.

For fans of Escape the Fate, the title track ‘Situation’ will be a let down, mostly because they’ve taken their edge off for a dark pop sound that will have mainstream appeal, kind of a goth-lite sound. For pop fans, this track, as well as ‘Reverse This Curse’ will draw them in with hook heavy choruses. ‘Situation’ has the benefit of making angst fun as they recount a string of one night stands with goth girls: “I love the girls who hate to love because they’re just like me.”

One thing for nay-sayers to keep in mind is that the band is relatively young. Their quick signing by Epitaph didn’t seem to do much to consolidate their identity, as Latest Fashion seems to be all over the musical map and doesn’t form a cohesive work of art. Still, they’re a band to keep track of in the future.
