Title:
Interest Is The Death of Attraction

Release Date:
02.23.2007

I’m not exactly sure why Limp Bizkit brought us so much attention, but I know that most bands in town have either been trying to use that break as leverage or tried to overshadow that awful band’s success ever since.

We have seen Whole Wheat Bread break into the national scene with the emergence of the krunk movement, which combines hip-hop and punk much the same way Bizkit combined rap and metal. Jacksonville’s Yellowcard has made great waves in the pop punk scene and Middleburg’s own Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is all over the MTV and their Virgin records debut just went gold.

Hoping to join the ranks of Jacksonville bands in the national spotlight is our own Harloe. This local punk/hardcore/screamo outfit is having their CD release party on Friday, February 23rd at Fuel Coffeehouse in Five Points. Harloe’s brand of rock combines traditional pop punk verse-chorus-verse structures with a slightly more modern hardcore twist. Rich with melodic vocals and a burly guitar backdrop, Harloe also has layers of screamed secondary vocals that come across as tormented. This Every Time I Die twist to the usually feel-good timbre of pop punk ala Good Charlotte creates a contrast of emotions that almost insinuates depth.

Their songwriting is still in its infancy, the band does show some promise of extending themselves beyond the traditional hardcore acts of the area, although they don’t seem to have the emotional depth of the emo-core bands, the political depth of the screamo bands, or the musical depth of the indie rock bands, they do have plenty of energy and seem to fit the national trend of bands you might find on the Warped Tour.

Harloe will be joined by Our Finest Hour, Shadow Agency, Sonoma, and Flood the City for their concert on Friday. For more information call 425-3835 or visit Harloe’s Myspace page at myspace.com/harloe.
